Climate change and food security at COP 15

by S. C.

In cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries hosts a side event on climate change and food security in the Bella Center in Copenhagen 10 December

Farming practices that capture carbon and store it in agricultural soils offer some of the most promising options for early and cost-effective action on climate change in developing countries, while contributing to food security, FAO says in a policy brief prepared for the Copenhagen Summit.

“Climate change and food security are closely interlinked. Without climate security there will be no food security and vice versa. Agricultural production is part of the climate challenge and indeed it is also part of the solution. What we need is investment in new farming solutions and new technologies”, says Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Eva Kjer Hansen, who will be conducting the joint side event.
