Tips to prevent or delay onset of diabetes

by S. C.

Worldwide there is an explosion in the sedentary, overweight and aging populations of which as many as 25% of that group may have pre-diabetes. About 57 million American adults aged 20 and older have pre-diabetes. Most do not know they are developing diabetes.

Pre-diabetes is a condition where the blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Most of the pre-diabetics have no symptoms that would cause them to see a doctor. Pre-diabetes puts you at great risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

It has been shown that lifestyle changes and weight reduction can often prevent clinical diabetes from developing or delay it onset by up to 10 years.

Changing to a healthy lifestyle with a program of weight reduction, exercise, a diet designed for diabetics, plus medications in the early stages of diabetes will help to minimize the risks for complications such as glaucoma, diabetes foot, heart attacks, strokes, and numerous others. The reality is that the changes in diet do not have to be extreme; instead they just have to cover certain ingredients and foods that worsen the disease. Diabetes patients are advised not to create their own diet plans, as there are a series of factors such as age, sex, weight, that need to be taken into consideration. HealthMadeEasy.com presents visitors with numerous articles meant to educate those who have diabetes on a number of subjects regarding this disease.
