Asbestos, a dangerous chemical that causes cancer

Asbestos is a dangerous chemical or group of minerals that causing cancer to a person who inhaled or exposed a long period of time. The asbestos are usually located in a mining area, so that people who are also called miner are risk in different kinds of cancer.

Malignant mesothelioma (mesothelioma cancer) or more precisely mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body’s internal organs. The most common cause of this cancer is asbestos. mesothelioma cancer can occur in the peritoneum, pericardium, tunica vaginalis, and to the most common site is in the pleura (an outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall).

By treating mesothelioma cancer is depends on the different factors including the stage of the disease, location of the tumors, metastasis of the cancer, patient’s health, and age. A patient with Mesothelioma is rarely given a good prognosis. About eight to twelve months are most given a life expectancy. A disease early diagnosis leads to the best outcome. Five-year survival rate have been achieved in a few mesothelioma’s patient.

Options for Mesothelioma Cancer treatment can be surgery, Chemotherapy, and Radiation Therapy. There are different types of surgery to treat the mesothelioma cancer such as: Pleurectomy (surgical procedure to remove part of the pleura or the lining around the lungs), Extrapleural Pneumonectomy, draining of the excess chest fluid, and Cytoreductive Surgery (removal of the tumor in the abdominal cavity).

There a lot of alternative treatment for this cancer it can be Immunotherapy- it uses the patient’s own immune system to attack the cancerous cells because immune system is able to distinguish healthy cells from cancer cells. Photodynamic Therapy another alternative treatment this involves the use of light to destroy cancer cells. Lastly, Gene Therapy the process of this procedure is to inject a specific gene straight into the tumour.
