Celiac food market will grow

Celiac disease is a widespread, lifelong disorder for which gluten-free diet is the only accepted form of therapy

by S. C.

GlobalData estimates that the global celiac disease therapeutics market will worth $512.3m in 2017. This market is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 13.9% to reach $664.4m by 2019. This high growth forecast is primarily attributed to the increased uptake of the pipeline products and increase in diagnosis rates.

Celiac disease is a widespread, lifelong disorder for which gluten-free diet is the only accepted form of therapy. Although treatment with gluten-free diet is safe and effective for the vast majority of the patients it is relatively expensive, limits nutritional variety, often restricts social activities and difficult to maintain. Therefore, there is a significant unmet need for non-dietary therapies to treat this condition.

The celiac disease therapeutics market has huge potential for new drugs or therapies due to a large patient pool and lack of pharmacological therapies. No drug has been approved till date for the treatment of celiac disease. Therefore, the market provides an opportunity for new entrants if they have a convenient route of administration/schedule, an enhanced long term efficacy and safety profile and cost effectiveness.
