The Grande Bouffe

A curious episode of the life of the Thomas Aquinas, at dinner at the court of Saint Louis king of France

It is said that one day Thomas Aquinas was invited for dinner from the pious king Louis. During the dinner the philosopher was so much lost in his thoughts that, without saying a single word, he wolfed in front of the astonished diners a huge fish that should serve for everybody at the table. Once finished the fish, he realized what he did and, begging pardon, he said: “Consumatum est!” (it has been consumed)
