A can’t-miss list of titles for the lovers of the agricultural world and of country life and its complex dynamics. (5. To be continued)
JOVINE Francesco. Le terre del Sacramento: Enrico Cannavale, lawyer and land owner, has prematurely grown old. He tries to shed light on the chaos of his properties, of his house and of his own existence, on his younger, ambitious and shrewd wife, on Luca Marano, a young son of poor people, mentored in his studies, who enjoys the confidence of farmers and who will become the unaware instrument of cheating, and will ultimately pay his ingenuity with his own life. Around these characters, the farmers are protagonists too, and founding nucleus of the story.
MAGGIANI Maurizio. Un contadino in mezzo al mare: a foot trip along the coast from Castelnuovo to Framura. The sea is two kilometers away from the house where Maggiani was born. He could see the sea from the roof, but he was born believing the sea was elsewhere. He leaves the country to move to the sea several years later, first in the city of La Spezia, then in Monterosso, from where he escapes because the village surrendered to tourists…
MALERBA Luigi. La scoperta dell’alfabeto: a group of farmers anchored to their land and culture, characterized by hunger and fatigue, observe the world and can interpret reality with impressive lucidity. This is the story of a disappearing universe.
