Rural Germany wins at Cannes

Austrian director Michael Haneke won the Palme d'Or for best film at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival for his movie "The White Ribbon", a chilling story about rural Germany in the build-up to World War One.

The very cinematic tale, filmed in black-and-white, examines themes of guilt, distrust and retribution among residents of a small German town besieged by tragedies and strange occurrences as World War I approaches.
