Exports of South African wine are on a positive trend for 2012. Total volume of exports for the first six months of the year are up 9%, according to Wines of South Africa.
In Europe, there has been a marked increase in bulk exports (+31%), as nearly every major South African brand has moved to local bottling. Exports of wine packaged in South Africa were down by 9%. South Africa, for the first time in years, now exports more bulk than bottled wine. In 2010, only 40% of South African exports were bulk.
However, there are some bright spots for bottled exports such as: Germany +5%, Canada +16%, Finland +8%, Kenya +55%, Japan +21%, and Russia +41%.
