Lebanese olive farmers protest

Olive farmers rejected goverment decision last week to buy 50,000 20-liter canisters of olive oil designated for Lebanese Army consumption.

The Lebanese Farmers’ Association said in a statement the decision “ridiculed citizens and increased strains on farmers, who are always susceptible to dire governmental decisions.”

The association reiterated its demand that the government should instead buy 200,000 olive oil canisters from all olive-producing areas.
