Suspension form commercialization of the “Tuscany Extra virgin olive oil” in London’s “Harrods” and on the web site www.harrods.com, communicated by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs
“The safeguarding and the promotion of the authentic Made in Italy all over the world is an absolute priority of this Government, besides being a strategic goal for the national economy. Harrods’ suspension of the commercialization of the extra virgin olive oil sold as Tuscan one, in violation of the norms on the geographic indications, is a testimony of the hard effort that Italy puts in the fight against counterfeits. Safeguarding the denominations of origin and our food excellence heritage is the daily field where we employ the best forces of the control organisms of the Ministry. Moreover the result obtained confirms the importance of the EU norms in the field and our capacity to ask their correct application throughout the EU territory. That is why I would like to thank the men and women of the Icqrf for their professionalism in protecting the Italian agri food heritage. I would like also to thank the DERFA, for it effective and rapid collaboration.”
This declared the Minister of agriculture food and forestry polices, commenting the suspension form commercialization of the “Tuscany Extra virgin olive oil” in London’s “Harrods” and on the web site www.harrods.com, communicated by the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) of the United Kingdom, following the opening of the procedure ex officio launched by the Icqrf.
In fact, the Icqrf had asked to block the commercialization of the oil bottled in the United Kingdom and commercialized with Harrods’ label. The product’s label contained explicit reference to the Pgi Tuscany extra virgin olive oil production, protected in the EU.
Thanks to the EU norms, strongly supported by Italy, the protection of our Pgi, Pdo productions can be activated throughout the whole EU territory with the Member States full involvement.
