Minister Zaia met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon



The process that places agriculture at the centre of the international agenda has been started: yesterday, in the UN Headquarters in New York, we took another important step. Declared Italian Minister agricultural food and forestry policies Luca Zaia, who met in New York the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon. The Minister has confirmed that Italy’s commitment remains high, not only in fulfilling the commitments taken during the G8 Summit, but also in ensuring that two key principles contained in the final declarations of Cison di Valmarino and L’Aquila are quickly applied: strengthening agricultural productivity, in particular in small and medium farms, and fighting financial speculations.

“I have shared with Secretary Ban Ki-moon the results of the first agricultural G8, which registered a wide consent, since it also involved the emerging Countries, the international organizations as well as the producers’ associations. The final document signed by the Ministers in Cison di Valmarino, whose contents were confirmed in the L’Aquila summit, is now in the hands of the United Nations. The international organization’s role is, in fact, to co-ordinate the global, regional and Country initiatives aimed at fighting global hunger and enhancing food security and safety.
