Italian foods at the Winter Olympics in Vancourver

The Ministry of agricultural food and forestry policies will promote the Made in Italy during the Winter Olympic Games that will be held in Canada (Vancouver - Whistler) from the 12 to the 28 February.

“Once again, thanks to the sport, we have the opportunity to promote our excellences around the world. I have always believed that wine&food combined with sports is a winning formula and for this reason we decided not to miss the Vancouver appointment. The Olympic games are one of the numerous sport events that we have taken part in”.

The Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies Luca Zaia announces the initiative of the Ministry aimed at promoting the Made in Italy during the Winter Olympic Games that will be held in Canada (Vancouver - Whistler) from the 12 to the 28 February.

The Mipaaf will be, in fact, present during all the games either inside the structure (approximately 3.000 sqm) of the Italian House in Vancouver, or in Whistler - centre of the alpine competitions - with a series of different initiatives:

- Institutional stand: situated in the area open to the public, it will be primarily dedicated to handing out information on the main categories of products of the Italian agrifood tradition with pamphlets on cheeses, processes meats, wine and oil; there were also be tasting events;

- Wine Bar: situated in lounge area, it will be managed by the Ministry in collaboration with the Ente Vini Enoteca Italiana of Siena. The Wine bar will host, every day, to aperitifs, at 12,30 with prosecco and sparkling wines, and at 18,30 with the classic “happy hour”;

- Restaurant “Italian Quality” in Vancouver. Many D.O.P and I.G.P products will characterize the menus of the more than 11.000 meals prepared during the Games, it will be the point of reference for the Italian cuisine excellence and a meeting venue for CONI, athletes, guests, foreign journalists, delegations, sponsor and Consortia;

- Restaurant “Italian Quality” in Whistler, only at lunch time it will provide meals (approximately 3.00 meals for the entire event).

Thanks to the importance and the potential of visibility and public (82 Countries, 5,500 athletes, 10,000 journalists and 1.600.000 tickets on sale), as part the Mipaaf’s initiatives, several consortia part of the AICIG (Italian Association Consortia of Geographic Indications) will take part in this event: extravirgin DOP oil producers, of DOC/DOCG wines and the Consortium Pasta of Gragnano, that will supply the pasta to the two restaurants for the entire manifestation.

Furthermore in the restaurant area evening cooking shows will be organized; the aim is to valorise the wine&food tradition of our Country, also through the appeal exercised by the preparation of foods and plates.

During 2009 Mipaaf has been also protagonist of important others and prestigious sporting events, like the Indoor Athletic Championships of Turin, the Mediterranean Games, the Swimming Games in Rome, the Athletic Championships of Berlin and the Boxing World Championship in Milan.
