New decree on Italian wine labels

Authorized with a decree the reduction of the “bands” widths that have already been printed by the Polygraphic Institute and Zecca of the State and distributed among the bottling companies

Recently, after the instances presented by some of the sectors’ associations, the Minister of agriculture Saverio Romano, in order to help producers, has authorized with a decree the reduction of the “bands” widths that have already been printed by the Polygraphic Institute and Zecca of the State and distributed among the bottling companies, following the dispositions made in the ministerial decree dated the 19 November 2011. The measure disciplined the management system of the Doc and Docg wines of the labels printed by the Polygraphic Institute and State giving the graphic format and the sizes of new bands.
Particularly, the wine supply chain, in concomitance with the commercial requests of the interested productions, presented the need, for technical reasons connected to the use of the label making machines, to use a smaller label compared to the one decided upon by the previous decree. The authorized marks can lead to a size reduction of the Ministry logo, that in the following stamps will be restored. The new measure, issued to answer the real needs of the wine supply chain, with which the characteristics of the marks were developed, thus allows the entry in the marlek of the Doc and Docg wines, at the same time guaranteeing anti-contrafactions and the traceability elements that characterize the State labels, printed by the Polygraphic Institute and State Zecca to protect the quality wine made in Italy.
