“Almost all our requests have been included in the new text that now must be analyzed with the Parliament.” This declared the Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies, commenting the agreement on the text of the reform of the Common fishery policy that was agreed on by the Eu Council of Ministers of agriculture and fishery held in Luxemburg.
“The agreement reached last night in Luxemburg, during the Eu Council, on the reform of the Common fishery policy is, without doubt, positive for the Italian fishery sector. Almost all our requests have been included in the new text that now must be analyzed with the Parliament. The co-decision system, in fact, foreseen another important passage, where we think we will be able to further improve the reform.” This declared the Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies Mario Catania, commenting the commenting the agreement on the text of the reform of the Common fishery policy that was agreed on by the Eu Council of Ministers of agriculture and fishery held in Luxemburg.
Among the issues agreed upon: - the temporary fishing halt measure, that was absent in the original Eu Commission’s proposal, is confirmed, - as for the obligation of the catches’ disembarkation, it will concern, as asked by Italy, only for those species for which already exists, in the Mediterranean fisheries policies, a minimum size for disembarkation. In this case the issue of fines for fishing undersize species, an issue particularly important for the sector’s associations, can now be resolved, - we have foreseen the possibility to introduce a clearer system to label sea products that, besides informing consumers on the sustainability of the catch, will be able to value the origin of the products and thus give an added value to the fishery enterprises, - as for the issue of management plans, the political agreement in Council confirms the function, carried out in the Mediterranean, by the state members’ approved plans, this results in a simplification of the activity that must be fulfilled to implement the new common fishery policy, - the possibility to apply, voluntary, the concession of transferable fishery, also in the optic of a regulation of the fleet fishery capacity, was recognised for the state members.
