“The edition 2012, that, for the first time, sees Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre together, is an extraordinary event, a winning choice, expression of values and a vision of agriculture and of the world that I can completely share.” This declared the Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies, Mario Catania, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the edition 2012 of the International Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, at the Lingotto Fiere of Turin.
The edition 2012 that, for the first time sees Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre together, is an extraordinary event, a winning choice, an expression of values and a vision of agriculture and the world that I completely share. Thanks to Carlo Petrini and Slow Food an harmonic relation has been established.”
This declared the Minister of agricultural food and forestry policies, Mario Catania, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the edition 2012 of the International Salone del gusto and Terra madre at the Lingotto fair Turin.
“This is an important occasion to reflect on how much it should be done at the international level; because we have to change the relation towards agriculture and farmers that is based on a different cultural value not only economic one. We have to say that the West, with its economic policy, in the past has caused damages to developing countries, throwing on them the food products, we did in fact, limit their possibility for growth. As for our country, it is necessary to indicate development roads, but we must say that the Government has already done a lot to ensure that the national agenda is once again focused on agricultural issues.
One of the issues is the problem of the agricultural soil consumption that despite its entity is was forgotten at the national level. In order to stop this process, I presented a bill that today is under discussion by the Presidents of the regions. I hope that today the regions will ask to make it a law. Another important issue, on which we have focused on, is to have transparency and honesty within the agricultural chain, especially to protect the weakest subjects. Yesterday the Article 62 entered into force, it is aimed at giving an adequate quota value to the farmers that have been subject of a dramatic income decrease. An Italian farmer receive only 17-18% from the price paid by the consumer”, Minister Catania continued.
“I would like to wish the best of luck to this event and wish to that the farmers present here at the Salone del gusto continue to safeguard their own history, traditions and knowledge, producing for their own and Italy’s wellbeing”, the Minister concluded.
