New chair for Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke has appointed a new chair to the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation board.

James (Jim) Dominguez CBE AM starts his three-year term on 1 July 2009.

Mr Burke said the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation had an important on-going role in helping to support our wine industry, including through research and development and marketing.

He said Mr Dominguez brought valuable business skills to the role, including experience as a vigneron and extensive commercial experience in Asia.

After a long career as an investment banker, Mr Dominguez retired from full-time executive positions in 1996 and is currently Commissioner (Chairman) of the Private Health Insurance Administration Council.

He also sits on a number of boards including Arrow Voice & Data, O’Connell Street Associates Pty Ltd and Pacific Knowledge Systems Pty Ltd and Wesbeam Holdings.

Previous board and advisory roles have included Tat Hong Holdings (Singapore) and Fuji Xerox (Tokyo).

The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation is a statutory authority providing strategic support to the Australian wine industry.

Mr Burke thanked the retiring chairman, John Moore AO, for his leadership of the corporation.

Mr Dominguez will join board members Andrew Moore, Mark Purbrick, Dr Tony Jordan, Dr Kevin McLintock, Josephine Rozman, Kate Thompson and Natalie Toohey.
